Crafting stories. Stitching memories.
Books. Resin crafts. Tote bags. Night lights and so much more…
Step inside if you would like to take a peek behind the curtain. So, ready or not, here’s a glimpse of the human hurricane called Maria, aka Mia of Mia’s Novel Creations.
I’d love to tell you I’m one of those orderly authors who plots every character arc on colour-coded index cards. That would be a lie. I’m a glorious hot-mess creative: words spill from me the way a river rolls toward the sea—no overthinking, just pure momentum.
A (VERY) CONDENSED TIMELINE
- 1973: I exploded into the world kicking and screaming. (I’ll let you do the maths.)
- 1980s: Wore neon coloured clothes, had big hair, fell in love with heavy metal music, all the while reading sticky books like The Secret Diaries of Adrian Mole, aged 13 3/4 and the epic fantasy Lord of the Rings series.
- Early 1990s: Became a single mum to Mark, a phenomenal soul who collected medical labels the way others collect stickers. Loving him has been both the steepest climb and the greatest view.
- Many phoenix cycles later, Mark is thriving with the right support; I’m still perfecting my rise-from-the-ashes routine.
- Recent plot twist: Though undiagnosed, later in life, I began to see neurodivergence in myself, followed by a series of battles which have left me with a diagnosis of ME/CFS. Look it up! It’s great fun! No! Stop! Stay where you are, you can check it out another time.
- Today, I write novels filled with complex emotions and craft handmade treasures under the name Mia’s Novel Creations—a nickname lovingly bestowed upon me by the children of friends and family.
WHY I WRITE & MAKE
Real life can be heavy. Fiction lets us float, even if only for a chapter or two. Likewise, a resin tray or a pocket poem may seem small, yet it can tilt a whole day toward joy. Words or epoxy, ink or thread—everything I create is a nudge toward hope.
ORGANISED CHAOS, CERTIFIED
Plotter? Absolutely not. Explorer? Always. I navigate by instinct, caffeine, and a sense of panic when a deadline looms. That wild-river feeling you get from my books? It’s authentic; I simply try to steer the raft.
CREDENTIALS (THE UNOFFICIAL KIND)
- Survived enough “What now?!” moments to earn a PhD in Resilience.
- Can juggle hospital appointments, cliff-hanger chapters, and a glue gun without setting anything on fire (most days).
- Fluent in sarcasm, empathy, and the delicate art of turning tears into punchlines.
- A sense of humour that has been known to make grown men blush!
Given my undoubtedly significant credentials, I am eminently qualified to explore a variety of emotions, and I believe that is the core strength in my writing. If you are still reading this, maybe, just maybe, fingers and toes crossed, I have piqued your interest. You might want to see what my years on this earth have taught me, and what experiences I have drawn on to write and craft.
*** Disclaimer: I have not written about myself, any saucy scenes are not mine, and I have never knowingly murdered anyone, in real life.***

What People Say
5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for those who want to Feel
The story felt like it was a true story and well it may be fiction, the part of the street kids was told with absolute authenticity. I worked with the street kids, ‘the garotos’ in Rio and saw first-hand the ugliness, in all forms, that they had to endure. The plot of the twins and the reason their biological mom and dad had to abandon them was outstanding. The interaction between Jose’s parents and the bio parents was told with reality. My first book by this author, I’m looking to purchase more!
